Ken
Jennings has gained quite a celebrity status for being the person to
win the most money on the Jeopardy game show ever. In fact, he holds
the record for the most money won on a TV trivia game show ever. He
achieved this feat with 74 consecutive wins on Jeopardy! probably the
most popular trivia game show ever.
His
career on TV saw him winning $2.5 million dollars (!) before being
ousted by a software engineer from Utah. Throughout his run, Jennings
maintained a very modest stature and made clear that his run was due to
a wide and varied knowledge of facts, and not to some
super-intelligence.
"It's
related to intelligence," Jennings told ABC's Nightline.
"To some degree, I think it's sort of a parlor trick to have all these
facts and be able to pull them out at the drop of a hat. It doesn't
make you smart in the same way that Stephen Hawking is smart or some
guy researching cures for cancer is smart."
This
is a good point for anyone who like to play trivia games for money. You
don't have to be a genius to earn big bucks. It's more about being
methodic in studying and acquiring a wider general knowledge of facts
and figures. Basically, what he is saying is "anyone can do it". Of
course there are very few people that can do it as well as he did.
